I had been told that a new chef had just arrived and I wanted to find out for myself what he could deliver. I went there at lunchtime.
For those of you who have never been to "La Trompette", you should know that it is off the Chiswick High Street and although the restaurant itself opened a few years ago, it still hasn’t lost any of its edge.
One of the things I liked best about "La Trompette" is that it is a non-smoking restaurant. A real plus in my opinion! Whilst I was there, I saw the gentlemen sat next to our table, leave the main part of the restaurant to go and smoke their cigars outside under a heated canopy.
The décor is modern and yet cosy without being overly sophisticated.
The service is friendly and professional.
The lunchtime menu was well balanced. I had the warm rock oysters with a champagne mousseline and avruga caviar served on a bed of sea salt. This was a feast for the eyes and the pallet. A real aphrodisiac!
The grilled sea bream fillets with olive oil and mash, red peppers and aged balsamic vinegar that followed was also extremely enjoyable.
But my favourite overall was the chocolate profiteroles that I had for dessert. This is the chef’s signature and for a good reason. The pastry was not chewy as it is often the case but perfectly light and crisp.
All in all a very sexy lunch!
Wine served: Pedro Rimenes with the "Chocolate Profiteroles", Sparkling Malvacia, Juranson Sec (a bit disappointing) and Semillon from New Zealand (very good).
All in all my lunch was very pleasant and very good value for money.
3-course menu - £23.50 plus 12.50% gratuity.
