Refreshing new artist, Estelle Rocca-Serra makes her solo debut as part of the Chelsea and Westminster Health Charity’s Hospital Arts Project.
Estelle, a self-taught, Corsican born artist was selected from open submissions by the privately funded Chelsea and Westminster Health Charity to show 21 paintings from her Hats, etc. and Glimpse collections.
Lula Mae
Hats, etc. is a collection of cheerful, bright, stylized portraits that explore female sensuality and strength of character. At first glance, one may be forgiven for thinking them simply a range of visually pleasing, cheery oil on canvas paintings, but look closely as there’s more than meets the eye …..
The Glimpse series is an awe-inspiring study of how light dances around the female form. The meditative, subtle silhouettes are a testament of the sensitivity and with which Estelle treats her subjects, whilst exploring the use of exciting materials such as microscopic mica flakes to reflect the light on the black canvas. The hue of the blue shades within the paintings are transformed from intense to soft, soothing shades, depending on the light and angle from which viewed.
Adieu L'artiste
The main objective for Hospital Arts is to create a healing environment where the visual and performing arts are combined to help relieve anxiety and assist in recovery. The Hospital was the first in Britain to provide weekly entertainment for patients, staff and visitors in the mall, on the wards and in the clinics.
